Antenatal and newborn screening timeline

The antenatal and newborn screening timeline is a resource developed to offer a visual reference to optimum times for NHS antenatal and newborn screening tests to take place.

The timeline was last updated in February 2016 in order to remove rubella susceptibility screening in pregnancy, which ended in England on 1 April 2016. The timeline is currently in version 8. It is © Crown Copyright 2016.

This resource has been developed into posters for GP surgeries and maternity hospitals and is now available to download as an A4 PDF.

Version 7 of the timeline (February 2015) was developed into an animated version, with voiceover (ensure you have your sound turned on). It is almost 4 minutes long and can be used as a training and educational resource. It is also an important part of the Antenatal & Newborn Screening e-Learning Module.

Note that the animated timeline is currently being updated to reflect the end of rubella susceptibility screening in April 2016 . Please bear this in mind when viewing this version.

NHS screening timeline

The NHS Screening Timeline is a visual representation of all national screening programmes available in the English NHS. The first version was launched in April 2010 and some minor ammendments were made in April 2011, May 2012 and May 2014.

It sits alongside the well established antenatal and newborn timeline (above), which shows optimum times for NHS antenatal and newborn screening tests to take place.

It is © Crown Copyright 2014. For more information, or if you would like to enquire about reproducing it somewhere, please contact us
